Phenomenon of Binocular Rivalry

As part of a research project, the Department of General Psychology at the University of Graz is investigating the phenomenon of binocular rivalry.

What's this?

If each of your eyes see a different picture, they alternately and randomly perceive either one image, or the other, and sometimes the images appear mixed up. This mix is called “transition” and is the main interest of our research.

What do you have to do?

For the examination itself, we will ask you to come to the University of Graz (Universitätsplatz 2, 8010 Graz) on three appointments of approx. 1.5 hours each.

There you will look at a screen through a pair of goggles and report what you are currently perceiving by pressing buttons. You will also answer a few questions about your perception.

What do you get?

After the examination has been completed, you will receive € 10 per hour, i.e. around € 50 (with three appointments). In addition, your visual acuity will be tested and you will experience first-hand how empirical research can take place and contribute to a better understanding of human perception.
