Registration for the study "Running with heart and brain"

Dear prospective study participant!

We are very pleased to welcome you to the non-binding preliminary survey for study participation in the research project "Running with Heart and Brain" ("BRAINHEARTlon").

Before the study can be started, relevant questions must be examined as part of a short preliminary survey.

PLEASE NOTE that the entire study project lasts FOUR WEEKS: The THREE measurement dates and running a standardized running route (no individual or "own" running route possible) must be adhered to (more study information under "Short description of the study") .

Short description of the study:

This study is a four-week research project of the departments Biological Psychology and Health Psychology at the University of Graz. The study will begin in April 2023 with multiple start dates. The duration of the study is four weeks in total.

A running intervention will then take place (starting time of the running intervention depending on resource availability), which can last either two or four weeks.

During the four weeks you will take part in psychological surveys, MRI and ECG measurements* three times at fixed times. -The examinations last two hours in total (you will receive either a financial allowance of 60€ or, if you are a bachelor's psychology student, course credits worth six hours).

^*According to the current state of knowledge, both magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electrocardiography (ECG) are not associated with any risk of biological impairment (non-invasive)

Additional Information:

Please note that this study is aimed at people with little or no physical activity. The running intervention of this study can therefore not be compared with any competition: You run at your individual and moderate pace!!!

Please also note that participation in the study is only possible if the following conditions are met: Age between 18 and 35, health suitability (mental and physical), e.g. no metal implants or non-removable piercings and right-handedness. The detailed examination of these requirements takes place after this preliminary survey has been completed by the investigator.

For the scientific evaluation, it is important that you participate in the entire study project. Of course, you are free to withdraw from the study at any time without giving reasons (there will be no disadvantages for you!).
